Additively Manufactured Race Exhaust

Posted:

CDME and Proto Precision recently completed a collaborative program to develop a full 3D printed / additively manufactured race exhaust for CDME’s Marc Purlsow’s Grand Prix race motorcycle.  This was done solely as a demonstration to show what is possible with 3D printing.  Marc is the reigning AHRMA Sound of Singles 3 Champion and helped the project team identify a real opportunity in the motorcycle road race market place.  The exhaust systems are highly engineered and difficult to find, especially for vintage bikes.  So CDME and Proto reverse engineered an OEM steel exhaust, modified the design slightly and produced an improved titanium version using an GE ARCAM system.  When printed and welded the CDME/Proto exhaust weighed 49% less than the OEM version.
