We are honored to announce that Dr. S. Michael Camp, Executive Director of Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation at The Ohio State University, has been awarded the John E. Hughes Award for Entrepreneurial Advocacy. Established in 2003, The Hughes Award for Entrepreneurial Advocacy recognizes an individual who has consistently contributed encouragement; support; physical, and/or intellectual resources; time; talent and/or skills; development; mentorship and/or financial contribution to further the field of entrepreneurship.

Dr. Camp has risen to the highest level of advocacy of entrepreneurship in academia at The Ohio State University. He has launched multiple entrepreneurship programs at Ohio State, including the Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization (TEC) Academy and the first-of-its-kind Experiential Entrepreneurship Education (E3) program. E3 combines state-of-the-art educational programs in product design, manufacturing, commercialization and business modeling with advanced design and prototyping capabilities and real-time sponsored research projects.

Separate from The Ohio State University, Dr. Camp led a collaborative initiative to launch I-Corps@Ohio, a statewide, university-based technology evaluation program that qualifies market entry strategies for new university discoveries and trains research scientists and student entrepreneurs in the advanced principles of technology entrepreneurship and commercialization. This program is the only state-level one sanctioned by the National Science Foundation (NSF).

“It has been my honor to serve the global entrepreneurship community in collaboration with some of the world’s top entrepreneurship scholars/educators and work with and within elite organizations in entrepreneurship education and philanthropy, including a term as VP of Programming for USASBE”, Dr. S. Michael Camp, 2017 recipient of USASBE’s John E. Hughes Award for Entrepreneurial Advocacy.

Dr. Heidi Neck, the Jeffry A. Timmons Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies at Babson College and President of USASBE said, “The events of the weekend marked the first awards program under USASBE’s updated mission of being an inclusive community advancing entrepreneurship education through bold teaching, scholarship, and practice. Through participation in our awards program winners and runners-up share their ingenuity, passion, and efforts. The future of entrepreneurship shines brighter today because of their involvement.”
