Senior Research Associate (Mechanical and Design)

The Senior Research Associate develops and leads mechanical and design engineering research and development efforts for the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME); coordinates and conducts various sponsored research and industry projects; collaborates with research and industry partners to ensure projects are completed in accordance with project milestones, deliverable requirements and within the cost and schedule agreed upon during project scoping; works with OSU faculty and other CDME staff to coordinate multidisciplinary fundamental and applied research; utilizes expertise and leadership in determining technical solutions for complex problems; serves as a liaison with sponsoring agencies and other research and educational institutes; serves as collaborator on research grants and industry contracts appropriate to CDME; prepares technical reports for submission to sponsoring agencies; participates in preparation of research and industry proposals; writes journal and conference articles; presents research progress to sponsors and presents research results at conferences and symposia; establishes priorities and supervises student employees (e.g. provides developmental opportunities, coaches to foster development, evaluates performance); supports professional development and student program activities of CDME in area of expertise; responsible for bringing in sufficient funding to support position and any student employee direct reports; performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

Additional Information: This position will require access to export controlled data and work in an export controlled facility.  Eligibility for this position is restricted to “U.S. persons” as defined in U.S. export control regulations.  “U.S. persons” include: (1) U.S. citizens or nationals; (2) permanent residents; (3) asylees or refugees; or (4) individuals otherwise described as “protected individuals” pursuant to Title 8 U.S. Code Section 1324b(a)(3)(b). 

Experience

Required
Ph.D. in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience and/or training in code and standards (ASME, AISI, AWS, SAE, etc.); extensive experience in a professional research environment with experience proposal writing and customer engagement; considerable experience in a R & D setting (i.e., planning and conducting R & D projects/programs in terms of technical and managerial functions)

Desired
Experience in a progressively responsible supervisory capacity over direct reports or processes is highly desired.

Research Specialist (Mechanical and Design)

As part of the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME), this position initiates and leads manufacturing and industry lead research on projects involving mechanical and design engineering; trains students and staff engineers on manufacturing methods, software, and tools where applicable; develops reports, research articles, and presentations for publication and professional meetings and conferences; manages operation and progress of industry lead or research projects; develops task lists, timelines and budgets for projects; supports proposal development; authors and co-authors research publications; supports professional development and student program activities of CDME in area of expertise; responsible for bringing in sufficient funding to support position and any student employee direct reports; performs other projects as assigned.

Additional information: This position serves as a post-graduate degree career opportunity for experienced engineers, aimed to offer industry lead project experience; initial term position length is 1 year, mutually agreed upon for extension by all parties, given the availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

Quality & Regulatory Program Manager

The Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME) at The Ohio State University, in partnership with the Department of Otolaryngology, and the Institute for Materials Research has created the Medical Modeling, Materials, and Manufacturing Lab (M4 Lab), where medicine, advanced manufacturing, and materials-related research converge to pursue innovative approaches to advance the health and well-being in our society. The M4 Lab is a newly formed laboratory utilizing 3D printing and other applied engineering manufacturing tools to support the translational research of clinicians and faculty toward commercial medical device development. One
specific area of specialty is patient-specific models and devices using 3D printing. The Quality & Regulatory Program Manager will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and improving the Quality System to meet requirements of regulatory agencies or other certifying bodies, as well as, managing all quality and regulatory activities for the CDME M4 Lab medical device portfolio, including new equipment installation. The Quality & Regulatory Program Manager will be hands-on and drive the implementation and   refinement of the quality management system in compliance with FDA 21 CFR 820 and ISO 13485 standards. This individual will provide support involving product design and development, product testing and disposition, quality investigations and product manufacturing, evaluation, and release.

Experience

Required:
BS in Engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience in medical device development and manufacturing industry. Experience in establishing and implementing an ISO 13485 certified quality management system and providing regulatory guidance, taking an active role in submissions that lead to approval for commercializing medical device technologies. Strong communication, organization, management, and presentation skills

Desired:
Masters/PhD degree; Six sigma, Lean, RAC, and CQA certification.

Post Doctoral Scholar

Conducts research and development efforts as a Post Doctoral Scholar at the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence focused in the area of artificial intelligence manufacturing; documents information resulting from these studies and reports to sponsors; prepares research results and reports, conference and journal papers, and technical presentations; assists in mentoring student employees; attends research group and unit meetings;  

Experience

Required
Ph.D. in Integrated Systems Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related Engineering field.

Desired
Familiarity with artificial intelligence manufacturing principles; excellent writing and communication skills.
